Rev. Dr. Joseph Briggs has served at First Baptist Church for 12 years.  He has served in the capacity of Assistant Pastor and is currently Director of Christian Education.

After graduating from Goldsboro High School, he attended North Carolina State University where he would graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management. While working in various managerial capacities, Joseph furthered his education by attending Campbell University obtaining a Master of Business Administration degree. It is during this time at Campbell University where he began to sense God's Call to ministry. After accepting God's Call, he returned to Campbell University to pursue a Master of Divinity degree. Dr. Briggs earned his doctoral degree from Duke University in May, 2023. His dissertation is entitled: "Compelling Black Preaching Themes Reaching Black Millennial-Xennial Males". He has authored the book, "Kneel Talk Real Talk 52 Weekly Devotions".

Dr. Briggs' public service includes work with Habitat for Humanity, the Durham Rescue Mission, and the Wake County Board of Elections. He has also participated in programs for the North Carolina Correctional Institute for Women and Butner Federal Prison. He currently serves with the Capitol Churches Alliance that offers worship services and programs like the "Easter Sunrise Service" and the "Service of Hope and Remembrance".  Dr. Briggs  serves as a congregational representative for ONE Wake, member of the NAACP, National Black MBA Association and a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Dr. Briggs and his wife, Earlene have 5 beautiful daughters, Kennedy, Jada, Kendall, Robyn Hicks-Guinn (Lambert Guinn), Brittany Hicks, and two grandsons, Robert and Henry Guinn.
